1) Please try to describe your music sharply but accurately. Music from every genre is allowed, but try to describe the genre _correctly_ An example of how things are not supposed to be done: "lol I found dis rly c00l death metal band called Slipknot, br00tal as hell!1"
2) Behave nicely - don't act like a jerk. Stupidity gets a laugh or two, but when it's repeated it becomes idiocy. No one likes idiots.
I'll start the game with:
SUMMONING
Probably the most unique metal band out there. Any fans of Mr. Tolkien (who are not afraid of screeching vocals ) should check this band out - while many of the fantasy-themed metal bands are pure cheese, Summoning really is the reincarnation of Tolkien's fantasy world. For beginners I recommend Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame album, it is the most "mellow" album and seemingly the easiest one to start with. However, like I said in the first sentence: do not expect typical metal (except the Lugburz album, which is just standard black metal). The keyboards are the most dominant character of Summoning, but you really have to hear it yourself because they are, in one word, epic. Finding Summoning was the greatest thing that happened to me during the whole summer, and since then I have traveled through Grey Havens, Lugburz, Dol Guldur, Nightshade Forests, Khazad Dúm and the Land of the Dead every day. Oh, and they have the first song ever (an Orkish war march) sung completely on the Black Speech of Mordor :-)
ICE AGES
Some of you may think that making electronic ambient music is equivalent to playing Nintendo. I also abandoned ambient music in my "true" metal years, but now I'm happy to say that there are a million great metal bands and a million great ambient bands (but no good bands at all that combine metal and ambient, that's just horrible!). Ice Ages is a darkwave/electronic/ambient project by Richard Lederer of Summoning, and the quality of music is again astonishing. Futuristic industrial sounds, great keyboards (once again) and agonizing lyrics - what more do you need?
DIE VERBANNTEN KINDER EVAS
In Finnish we have the saying "Ei kahta ilman kolmatta", which applies also here. This is the third band of Richard Lederer, but all they have in common is that they are not happy music. Die Verbannten Kinder Evas is a neoclassical ambient band - the music is very melancholic and features only the clean singing voices of Richard and a changing female singer. Depressive, but in one word: beautiful. Richard Lederer just can't release a bad album.
ULVER
This band has changed their style more often than any other band and is still producing quality music! The first album "Bergtatt" is a nice mixture of black metal and folk, "Kveldssanger" is pure acoustic folk music and on the third one "Nattens Madrigal" they decided to go completely necro and raw lo-fi black metal. Needless to say, all of them are great. However, this was not the end of their progression: eg. Perdition City is a magnificent electronica album that touches a bit of jazz and classical music.
I really have to do something useful now, so maybe four bands will be enough for now. As you might have guessed, I'm a music nerd. If anyone has read this whole thing AND actually cares, ask me for recommendations in any genre and I'll try to help you finding the best of the best of that particular genre. Metal is the music closest to my heart, so I'll be more than happy to give you everything from the rawest black and death metal to the more prestigious metal genres. However, the only music genre where I can't recommend you anything is bad music :-)
